  • High-performance wide-angle lens
  • Focal length large initial aperture
  • reliable autofocus
  • excellent imaging performance
  • powerful and robust stepper motors with DSD (Dual Syncro Drive)
  • ideal for use in reportage, indoor and architectural photography
  • Dust and splash water protection
  • suitable for the Leica SL system
  • L-mount connection

With the APO-Summicron-SL 1:2/28 ASPH., Leica Camera introduces another high-performance wide-angle lens for the Leica SL system.
The lens is the latest addition to the growing series of APO-Summicron-SL lenses, which stands for top performance in the optical field as well as for its extremely fast and reliable autofocus. After the 35, 50, 75 and 90 mm focal lengths, the APO-Summicron-SL 1:2/28 ASPH. is the first true wide-angle lens in this series, which also have the same filter diameter thanks to the exactly identical dimensions of each focal length.
The angle of view of the APO-Summicron-SL 1:2/28 ASPH. predestines it for use in reportage, indoor and architectural photography. Its large initial aperture for this focal length, which can be used without any loss of performance, enables additional creative possibilities through targeted play with sharpness and blur. Thanks to the L-Mount standard, the APO-Summicron- SL 1:2/28 ASPH. is also fully compatible with cameras from other partners of the L-Mount Alliance, which also feature the lens mount developed by Leica Camera.

13 elements - three of which have an aspherical surface on both sides
in ten groups - contribute to maximum image quality even at fully open aperture. The basic rule for Leica Lens is: open aperture equals working aperture, stopping down does not increase performance and is only necessary for image composition. Natural skin tones, smooth transitions into bokeh, outstanding detail contrast and sharpness right to the edges of distortion-free images are a matter of course for Leica Lens. A special feature of the APO-Summicron-SL 1:2/28 ASPH. is the exceptional apochromatic correction for this focal length. For the perfect correction of chromatic aberrations, most of the lens elements used have anomalous partial dispersion and are made of high-quality special glass whose sophisticated processing fully exploits even the innovative manufacturing methods of Leica Manufaktur.

Extremely powerful and robust stepper motors with DSD® (Dual Syncro Drive™) are used for the autofocus in all Summicron-SL lenses. With these, the entire focusing range can be covered in only around 250 milliseconds. In addition to autofocus, Leica Camera is also taking an innovative approach to manual focusing: Summicron SL Lens use a new type of manual focus ring design. A ring magnet with alternating north-south polarization is embedded in the ring. If the ring is rotated, the magnetic field changes. A sensor evaluates the magnetic field and sends its measurement signals to the main processor. Depending on the angle and speed of rotation, the focus position is adjusted accordingly - making manual focusing even faster and more precise.

Both the construction and design of the ultra-modern Summicron SL line represent the next step in lens development for the Leica SL system, for which new, extremely precise methods and measuring techniques have been specially developed. The result is not only more compact dimensions and a significantly lower weight, but also excellent imaging performance. A particular focus in the design of the APO-Summicron SL fixed focal lengths is on avoiding stray light and reflections. In addition to optimizing the optical and mechanical design, unavoidable reflections are reduced to a minimum thanks to the high-quality coating of the optical surfaces. Thanks to the dust and splash water protection and the Aquadura coating on the outer lens elements, the extremely durable lenses can also be used in almost any weather without hesitation.
