  • Wide Angle Lens
  • for Sony E-mount full frame
  • high speed for attractive Background sharpness
  • comfortable light weight with 220g
  • compact size
  • short closest focusing distance of only 11 cm
  • noiseless OSD (Optimized Silent Drive) motor
  • water and grease repellent fluorine coating
  • supports various manufacturer-specific AF functions of Sony cameras, e.g. Fast Hybrid AF, AF with Eye Detection and Direct Manual Focus (DMF)

This fixed focal length features unprecedented light weight and advanced performance parameters. It offers the wide angle of view of an ultra-wide angle.
This model has a filter diameter of 67 mm and meets Tamron's specifications for size and weight. It also allows shooting at extremely close range: for the first time in this lens class, macro shots with a reproduction scale of 1:2 are possible. The lens body is weather sealed (against moisture), and dirt and fingerprints on the front lens can be easily removed thanks to the water- and grease-repellent fluorine coating. It is compatible with Sony's proprietary camera features, such as Fast Hybrid AF or Eye Detection AF, and also offer a range of advanced functions that guarantee high ease of use and fantastic image results.

Developed with state-of-the-art technology, the Lens's optical design ensures exceptionally high imaging performance across the entire image area thanks to the targeted arrangement of LD (Low Dispersion) and GM (Glass-Molded asperical) elements. In this way, the distortion typical of wide-angle Lenses is minimized to such an extent that any remaining aberrations can be completely eliminated by in-camera correction. Tamron's highly praised BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating reduces reflections inside the Lens, effectively minimizing ghosting and aperture spotting. Excellent optical imaging performance and camera-based distortion correction make this fixed focal length suitable for virtually any photographic situation, from spontaneous family snapshots to demanding professional assignments.

Thanks to its 64mm overall length, it is pleasantly compact and forms a well-balanced unit when used with Sony E-mount cameras. The Lens has a front extension, but retains its length when focusing, which is advantageous for close-up photography. The focus ring is located at the front of the Lens, making it very convenient to manually focus with thumb and forefinger.

The autofocus system is based on a silent OSD (Optimized Silent Drive) motor. This is not only much quieter than conventional AF motors, but also focuses on the subject much faster and more precisely. This is particularly advantageous for video recordings, since no disturbing noises are recorded here. AF tracking of moving objects is also performed with outstanding precision. In addition, the new fixed focal length supports various manufacturer-specific AF functions of Sony cameras, including Fast Hybrid AF, AF with eye detection and Direct Manual Focus (DMF).

The bayonet ring and other critical areas on the lens body are sealed against moisture and splash water. This allows the Lens to be used for outdoor photography even in adverse weather conditions. The front lens is coated with a water- and grease-repellent fluorine coating, which ensures that the lens surface is very easy to clean and less susceptible to contamination, such as fingerprints or dirt splashes. This weather protection is particularly important for Lenses that allow the subject to be photographed at close range.

The new fixed focal length is compatible with many advanced features of mirrorless system cameras**.
These include:
- fast hybrid autofocus
- AF with eye detection
- Direct Manual Focus (DMF)
- built-in lens correction (vignetting, color fringing, distortion)
- update Lens firmware via camera

** Feature set depends on camera model used. For further information, please refer to the camera manual. Status: September 2019
