Unobtrusive observer
The handy, moderate telephoto lens ZEISS Loxia 2.4/85 offers outstanding imaging performance despite its compact size - across the entire image field of a full-frame sensor. Whether for portrait, street or landscape photography, with this unobtrusive Lens you will master these photographic disciplines with flying colors.
The ZEISS Loxia Lens was specially developed for cameras in the Sony α7 series. This means that you can combine the advantages of the latest mirrorless full-frame cameras with the creative possibilities of "classic" photography with manual focus.
Last but not least, ZEISS Loxia lenses have everything you need for video recordings of the highest quality - e.g. the unique DeClick feature for continuous adjustment of the aperture.
Design
A lens with relatively few glass-to-air surfaces, developed by Dr. Ludwig Bertele at ZEISS in 1930. At the time, it was the fastest lens for 35 mm photography with apertures up to 1:1.5 and high contrast thanks to good stray light behavior. This is where the name comes from, derived from the word sun, the symbol for maximum brightness.
DeClick function
A completely new function of the Loxia lenses is the ability to "de-click" the locking mechanism of the aperture with the supplied tool via a set screw on the bayonet surface. In video applications, an unplanned difference in brightness that occurs during camera panning can thus be continuously compensated for. This function can also be used with other video systems that are suitable for adaptation due to their favorable dimensions.
Precise manual focus
Operating a Lens manually means controlling the image result from your fingertips. Ergonomics is everything. The ZEISS Lens impresses with a large rotation angle that enables precise focusing to the point. Changes are immediately visible in the viewfinder. The high-quality focusing mechanism is smooth-running and has no play, thus additionally supporting the intuitive play with the focal plane. The precise engraving in meters and feet as well as the depth of field scale offer additional help when focusing manually.
Virtually distortion-free optics
Dramatic perspectives and the view from unusual angles - ZEISS Lens open up new creative possibilities. Distortion would disrupt the composition, as straight lines whose image does not pass through the center of the image would appear curved. This disruptive effect is largely compensated for by sophisticated optical designs for all focal lengths.
High-quality all-metal mount
Tangible quality and high value retention qualify ZEISS Lens for decades of intensive use. The high-quality all-metal mount, the non-slip metal focusing and aperture ring and the robust front bayonet and filter thread ensure an inspiring photographic experience. In addition, a special sealing ring on the bayonet protects the interface between camera and Lens.
Comprehensive compatibility
The ZEISS Loxia lenses are suitable for Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras with E-mount and have been optimized for sensors up to the full 35 millimetre format (24 x 36 millimetres). With ZEISS Loxia lenses, the aperture is preselected purely manually, thanks to the DeClick function of the mechanical aperture ring. Aperture priority (A) and manual exposure control (M) are available on the cameras.
